Dear Bookworms,

This read was provided to me for free in exchange for an honest review.

The plot

After the grisly murder of a pastor and his two children in Lincoln, Nebraska, Captain Linda Turner is determined to find the killer; presumably the pastors missing wife.

But finding the missing Mrs. Hansen proves no easy feat as she appears to exist solely on paper.

Meanwhile in St. Louis, a local televangelist, Ray Williams, is sure his church, The Road to Calvary, is soon to go under.

This small production isn’t making enough to make ends meet. That is until one of his members, Susannah Baker, approaches him with ideas meant to generate more revenue and members. Uneasy with the ideas at first, Ray is won over by Susannah’s charms and quickly begins to grow his church in ways he never dreamed.

But not everyone is taken in by Susannah’s charms. Ray’s two right hand men at the church have their misgivings about her. Ray is smitten, quickly turning their business relationship into a more romantic one.

And…what did I think?

Expertly told in multiple storylines, these two plot lines become inexplicably intertwined to one heart pounding conclusion.

Overall I would say this one was a good read!

This book was a little different than the mysteries/thrillers I am accustomed to read. From the beginning it is pretty clear who the murderer is, but the journey of discovery with the characters, and the way in which Schleich plays out the story is really captivating.

There were definitely some curve balls thrown in there at the end that I did not see coming! which was pretty well done considering we all know who the killer is from the get go.

View Point

This one is told from various vantage points.

First, Captain Linda Turner as she tracks down information about the missing Mrs. Hansan digs deeper into her background.

Pastor Ray Williams as he grows his congregation and finds fame and success in his broadcast of The Road to Calvary; and an elderly woman parishioner and her dysfunctional family.

Having various points of view really made for excellent pacing of the plot and gave the reader various angles of discovery.

My Rating

Rating: 4 out of 5.

I believe that fans of a good mystery/crime fiction will enjoy this read for sure!

Till next week!
