Book 2 in the Jackaby series was another home run in my book!
Having barely had time to catch her breath from the last investigation, Jackaby and Abigial are called to a mystifying case of a house cat and her babies turning into…fish…
Having chalked it up to just a classic, pesky case of shapeshifting beasties, it all seems open and shut until the owner winds up dead. The two receive a summons to assist Charlie (now) Cane in the neighboring town of Gad’s Valley when a dinosaur dig turns deadly.
The wife of the farmer whose land the bones were discovered on has been found dead under eerily similar circumstances to the woman in New Fiddleham, and a dinosaur bone has been stolen.
Jackaby and Abigail once again find themselves embroiled in a high stakes game of whatthehellisgoingonhere. Two mysterious deaths, one missing dinosaur bone, and a stealthy predator stalking the Valley equals one riveting read!
My thoughts on this book
Ritter has done it again, and if possible, this one was even better than the first.
Jackabys witty dialogue and analytic scatterbrained mind coupled with Abigails stubborn determination to problem solve make these two an unstoppable force to be reckoned with.
I can see the grounds being laid with this master villain working behind the scenes to cause chaos and turmoil (in general or specifically as an adversary for Jackaby I am uncertain on at this time) and cannot WAIT to see how it all plays out.
New characters are great!
I enjoyed the new characters brought into this book, in particular the hunter/trapper Hank Hudson. He was an excellent addition to the sleuthing group and provided some levity and chuckles along the way.
Overall excellent read and checking out #3 from the library ASAP! Have you read these books? Let me know in the comments down below!
Until next week!
